6 Skincare Tips to Consider for Oily and Sensitive Skin
By Yoridale
If your skin is oily and sensitive, you should use the right moisturizing product, wash with the right skin cleanser twice daily, take extra care in choosing what products you use, exfoliate your skin once a week, avoid touching your face, and seek advice from a dermatologist.
Oily skin can be bothersome but even more so if it is sensitive. Sensitive skin can quickly become aggravated if it is not properly cared for. The following skincare tips will help if you have oily skin that is also sensitive.
Use the right moisturizing product
Even if you have oily and sensitive skin, you still need to moisturize it. However, the tricky part is choosing a product that will not irritate it. Look for moisturizers that are not oil-based and are fragrance-free. You may want to try natural oils like Argan oil rather than harsh chemicals. There are many argan oil benefits that even people with oily and sensitive skin can enjoy.
Wash with the right skin cleanser twice daily
Oily and sensitive skin should be washed twice each day. Once in the morning and again before going to sleep in order to rinse away any dirt, oil or makeup. Washing more than two times can further irritate the skin. Read the label when choosing a cleanser. You should use a skin cleanser that is soap-free or is cream-based since they have lower pH levels compared to soaps and other skin washes. You should also avoid scented cleansers since these can cause allergic reactions or lead to breakouts on sensitive skin.
Take extra care in choosing what products you use
Since oily and sensitive skin is more prone to breakouts and irritation, you should take extra care in choosing products. Aside from reading the labels of the facial washes, moisturizers, lotions, makeup and other skincare products you use, you should always test them on a small area of your skin before application. Usually there are instructions on the package about how to test it. If you notice any redness, irritation or breakout on the area you tested, you should discontinue use of the product.
Exfoliate your skin once a week
Exfoliating your skin helps remove dead skin cells that are not only unsightly but also clog pores and can cause breakouts. Exfoliating pads can be used to exfoliate your skin. Exfoliating pads have grooves that scrub off dead skin cells. Pour a soap and fragrance free cleanser on the exfoliating pad and gently scrub your face with it. Rinse away using warm water.
Avoid touching your face
Your fingers could be a source of bacteria and germs so avoid fidgeting with your skin. Additionally, your fingers can transfer oil from food, lotions and other items and this will only make your skin oilier and can lead to breakouts. If you find it difficult to keep your hands away from your face or skin, keep your hands occupied.
Seek advice from a dermatologist
If you notice that your skin is overly sensitive and too oily, you should seek advice from a dermatologist. A specialist will be able to diagnose any possible skin problems that may be the underlying reason for your sensitive skin. Additionally, they can administer the appropriate treatment and advise you on what products you should use.
Having oily and sensitive skin does not have to be a nightmare. You simply have to know the right regimen and products to use.
